Here are some tips to protect your vehicle:

• When leaving your vehicle, make sure the visible interior is empty, even if you’re only gone a short time. When shopping, lock parcels and other valuables in the trunk.

• If possible, remove the front identifying panel from your stereo and take it with you when you leave your vehicle. Some stereo systems can be installed on a slide so you can easily remove them and lock them in the trunk or in your home.
• Always shut windows tight and lock all doors.
• Don’t leave a set of keys in the vehicle and don’t mark your keys with personal identification or the licence plate number of the vehicle.
• Don’t leave your vehicle registration in your car.
• Avoid parking your vehicle in dark areas or near trees or fences, which provide hiding places for thieves.
• If you have a garage, always keep the vehicle inside, with all doors and windows of both the vehicle and garage shut and locked.
• Use anti-theft devices — such as a steering wheel bar that impedes steering, a security collar that blocks access to the ignition system, or a vehicle alarm.

Within reason, make it as difficult and time-consuming as possible for a thief to break into or steal your vehicle! Although this may not always deter a criminal, thieves usually choose quick and easy targets.
